I Bought, I Tried, I Loved: April/May 2025

Wow, so I went from the happiest, living her best life version of myself in March to a really, really exciting April, just to hit May and fall into the darkest, deepest hole I’ve been in in a long time. I was walloped with something really unexpected and then it just spiraled from there to the point that completely innocuous things were sending me over the edge on the daily it felt like. I cried more than I’ve cried in awhile. My mental health hit a new low, and truly just getting up and existing as a human was hard. So while I had my faves from happy April, sharing them was one of the last things on my mind.

With all that said though, I love an outlet where I can set aside the negative to focus on the positive, I love my little internet community, and the sunshine is slowly peeking through my clouds, so here we go!

dove scalp+ hair therapy scalp serum.

Think of this serum as skincare for your scalp! One of my new year’s resolutions this year was to get my best hair yet, and one of the most important tips I’ve picked up is that treating your scalp as a vital part of the equation is essential to healthy hair! I use the scalp serum as the first step of my post-shower routine, and then I use one of these to really get the blood flowing, invigorate my roots, and make sure the serum makes its way around my whole head. I’ve literally already gone through an entire bottle and a good portion through my second, so definitely an easy re-buy on empty product for me!

mackenzie-childs rosy check glass cutting board set.

I’ve done so much work in my rental apartment to make it feel like me, but the one thing I feel like I’m absolutely stuck with much to my chagrin is the kitchen countertops. Ugh, the horror! They’re so hideous to me, and unfortunately I just think we actually actually use our kitchen too much for a renter-friendly hack like covering them in contact paper to work. So I went searching for a creative alternative and somehow went from my love of a butcher block countertop to butcher block cutting boards to these so, so cute pink checkerboard glass cutting boards! They look absolutely adorable displayed out on the countertops, create a functional kitchen workspace when my fiancé steps in to cook (my earlier sentiment that we use the kitchen too much for contact paper was very generous because let’s be real, I don’t cook), and they’re actually a really hygienic alternative to plastic or wood cutting boards.

pastel skies wallpaper by sarahxoclark.

I’ve become such a little wallpaper convert in this apartment. When I saw this gorgeous, soft, sunset, Lover-esque wallpaper, I could not be stopped from purchasing it immediately. The colors fit into my existing kitchen design oh so perfectly, and I had a wall begging to be made beautiful, so I taught myself how to install traditional wallpaper on the fly and now I get to look at it every single day! It’s literally such a little dopamine boost when I come downstairs in the morning or come home from work, and it really doesn’t hurt that it gives SUCH Lover vibes (confirmed intentional by the wallpaper artist herself when I posted about it on IG!). And I will never pass up the opportunity to add a little Taylor Swift to my life.

wayfair narrow ornate gold mirror set.

These narrow gold mirrors have been living absolutely rent-free in my mind ever since one of my fave IG home girly follows, Hattie Kolp, shared them in her stunning apartment. I put them on my overall home moodboard and really tried to work them into each room design as I’ve slowly been working through them, but they just never felt right anywhere. Until now! I was really struggling with the wall space that my dining table is against, and wavered for entirely too long between a large piece of art for color or a large mirror to make my Polly Pocket sized home feel larger and try to bounce some light around. Neither one felt right on its own, but I remembered these gosh darn mirrors still squatting in the back of my mind and realized that like the only quote worth remembering from The Road to El Dorado goes… both. Both is good. So I bought the mirror set, put them on either side of an art piece, and to quote an actual 2000s masterpiece, it’s the best of both worlds!

paris hilton pink and gold mixing bowl set.

My kitchen/dining area was truly getting all the love before I fell into my little mental health hole. Almost everything on this list had to do with those areas! Anyway. I have a rule for any new purchases for my house and it’s that everything must be cute. It sounds pretty facetious, but when we were moving two years ago I found myself looking around at so many things I didn’t even feel like were worth packing up to take with us to the new apartment because they were just basics I had bought at some point to “get through” or items I had “settled for” because I didn’t know cuter versions existed. Enter this set of pink mixing bowls! They’ve been so versatile because they work great as their intended use of mixing bowls, but double as really cute serving dishes when hosting or my personal fave use, as an enormous bowl to chow down on a big, fresh salad out of.
